Duane Heter is the fourth of five children. He was raised in a Christian home in the small desert town of Trona, California. Many of his fondest childhood memories center around family life in his local church and church youth camps. He has the wonderful blessing of a Godly heritage with Christian ancestors going back for generations.
Duane has a B.A. in sociology from California State University, Fresno. He spent four years in the navy where he trained as an electronic technician and in interior communications, and is a journeyman electrician by trade. He worked in the Civil Engineering Department at Beale Air Force Base for 16 years. Presently, he spends three hours on the road each day commuting to Folsom Dam where he is a power systems electrician.
Duane and Trina were married in 1986. They moved to Loma Rica in 1987 and began attending LRCC in 1990. They have four children - Stephen (1989), Joel (1991), Tiersa (1995) and Zachary (1998). He and Trina spent years as foster parents.
Duane’s ministries at LRCC include the leading of a small group intergenerational home Bible studies for 6 years. He has taught third and fourth grade Sunday school for many years. He led children’s church for second service, has been involved with youth, and led a parenting class. Duane was an active leader in his past churches serving as a teacher, deacon, and elder.
His interests vary. They include camping, fishing, family games, sight seeing, working at the house, history, and reading. He says that it is amazing how your interests change when you have children.
