Wendell Smith is one of the eight elders at LRCC. He is pictured here with his wife, Delores.
I am a California native, born and raised in Live Oak. I graduated from Live Oak High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. I married my high school sweetheart, Deloris, and we will celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary this year. Now retired, I spent 27 years as an Operating Engineer, and another 10 years in the financial services business.
We have 4 children, 3 sons (one deceased) and a daughter; 8 grandchildren, 5 grandsons (one deceased) and 3 granddaughters, and 4 great grandchildren, 3 boys and 1 girl. Fortunately they all live locally, or within a few hours drive from us!!
I accepted the Lord when I was 16 years old, and have been involved in the Christian community all my adult life. We formerly attended church in Gridley, and later, in Yuba City where we lived for 19 years before moving to Loma Rica. We moved to Loma Rica in 1998 and have attended Loma Rica Community Church since 1999.
Upon retiring, I became interested in woodworking and recycling "old things into new", and with my wife, became involved in and started a crafting business. That business, along with maintaining a small acreage and a little travel, has occupied my "retirement" years.
