What is a podcast?
Podcasts are subscriptions to download audio files (mp3 files) from a podcaster (provider of audio files).
A real-world analogy might help to explain.
Note: In the following analogy, the words in parenthesis represent the podcast equivalent.
Podcasts are similar to newspaper subscriptions. When you subscribe to a newspaper (the podcast), the publisher
of the paper (the podcaster) will deliver a newspaper to your home (your computer). After a newspaper is delivered,
it sits on your porch or dropbox until someone places it on the kitchen table or your favorite recliner (podcatcher like iTunes). The
newspaper is delivered, but you decide the appropriate time for reading the paper (audio file). As with any subscription, a subscriber
can always cancel a podcast subscription at any time by removing it from your list of podcasts in iTunes.
Wikipedia provides additional information about podcasting.

Why does nothing happen when I click on a link?
You need a podcatcher application like iTunes to subscribe to a podcast and an mp3 player application like iTunes,
Real Player or Windows Media Player to listen to the audio file.
To install iTunes and subscribe to our podcasts, view our podcast instructions.

Do I need an iPod to listen to the audio files?
Although iPod has excellent integration with iTunes, you can listen to the audio files as
long as you have an mp3 player installed on your computer or have a portable mp3 player that you

How do I customize iTunes for podcasts?
To customize iTunes for podcasts, select from the iTunes menu bar 'Edit' and then 'Preferences'.
Click on the 'Podcasts' tab. From this iTunes 'Podcasts' preferences page you can perform the
following customizations:
- To set how frequently iTunes checks for new podcast episodes, select your desired frequency option from the "Check for new episodes" drop-down list.
- To set the number of podcast episodes that iTunes will automatically download, select your desired option from the "When new episodes are available" drop-down list.
Note: If you choose the "Do nothing" option, new episodes will appear dimmed in the Podcasts playlist, so you must manually click the 'Get' button next to the episode to download it.
- In the 'Keep' dropdown list you can select how many episodes to retain on your computer.
Please note that these customizations will apply to all your podcast subscriptions in iTunes and not
just the LRCC podcast.
